Ta'ziye means „crying, grieving“, and is the term for a very old form of epic theatre. It tells the story of the martyr Imam Hussein and his death at the battle of Kerbela in the 6th century. The film by Abbas Kiarostami sheds light on the tremendous effect this story has on its audience even today.
